guayabitas de maria

another delectable delight from victor’s café in nyc. fresh-baked warm guava cobbler with a rich buttercrumb topping, served with tahitian vanilla ice cream. the best cobbler i’ve ever had. it’s the ultimate perfection. you know those movie moments where something is like … heaven sent … so, you see the ray of light shinning upon that something and you hear the angels sing? yea, i have these moments when i eat this guavamazingness. granted i have only had it twice … it is seriously one of the best desserts i have ever had.
sacré bleu!!!

okay peoples. i hit the motherload. after my successful macaron purchase at bouchon bakery in columbus circle in nyc, i was on a rampage. look what i found!!!! a few blocks down and around the corner from my hotel, is the macarOn café (emphasis on the “o” because it’s macaron, not macaroon. silly). i nearly cried as i approached the café … i felt like i reached the summit! 18 flavors that day. 18!!!!! i couldn’t believe my eyes. and i still can’t believe it. these macarons were small like the ones in the U.S.ofA. but tasted like the ones i had in france! sooooo chewy and flavorful and juicy and amazing and chewy and flavorful and juicy and amazing and and and … holy cow. so good. best yet, they even deliver throughout manhattan! one of these days … they will deliver to me across the country. i mean, they have to, right? i’m their biggest fan!
below is a photo of my pack of 6. flavors from left to right: passion fruit, honey lavender, créme brulée, chocolate coconut, pistachio, and lemon.

i. am. obsessed.
mmm … that’s right … more macarons

it was only a matter of steps outside landmarc restaurant in nyc until i passed by the bouchon bakery. my eagle eye immediately scanned and spotted my target — macarons! but not just any macarons … giant ones! the same size as the one i had in france but looked like the ones i see in the U.S.ofA.! this had to be a happy medium. flavor on the right - chocolate. flavor on the left - mango. chewy. crunchy. celestial. the mango one was my favorite. it also impacted travel time to the theater because my mom and i ended up on the subway, in rush mode. oops!
another meaty sammich

my memory of this sandwich is better than it actually tasted — i think. it was a hot and humid day in new york city, and after a day of riding the subway and walking around town, food never looked so good. my mom and i were on our way to whole foods to shop and eat, but then decided to go to a recommended restaurant at the time warner center in columbus circle called landmarc. i’m not gonna lie, the waitress was not the business … so i was kind of dreading my meal. i mean, c’mon … i was a hot and hungry tourist who just wanted a decent meal in an air conditioned space.
anyway, this *steak sandwich* was cooked to perfection and topped with caramalized onions served on a baguette. now, looking at the picture, one might think, how the heck can i pick that up and put it in my mouth? it’s gigantic! well friends, it is possible. i had a big decision to make: order with or without the cheese. being lactose intolerant, i would normally choose without. however, for some reason this time i felt like i would be missing out on the completion of the dish. as you can see, i chose the cheese which by the way was gruyére … sensational swissness. yum. it was the glue to my sandwich. i am convinced that if i hadn’t ordered the gruyére this landmarc sandwich wouldn’t have made it on my blog.
actually, i would go here again.
bo’s bbq

this place is a gold mine. slotted in a homey space on lafayette’s one and only main boulevard, bo’s bbq presents my favorite bbq of “my” time. order the rib or brisket lunch/dinner, and be prepared for a juicy slab of meat with bread, potato salad, green salad, and sweet potato. oh — and my faaaaaaaaaaaaaaavorite sauce! sweet, sour, and hot, bo’s bbq sauce makes my life better. my personal favorite is the brisket. it’s so friggin juicy and delicious my mouth is watering as i type this. i feel like this entry doesn’t give a good enough description … but i’m at a loss for words. just go to bo’s, okay?
bakesale betty … ohhhmahhhgahhhd

chicken orgasmica — the best fried chicken sandwich in all the land. this hunk-o-paradise resides at bakesale betty, an australian bakery on the corner of 51st and telegraph in oakland.
this place is so good it doesn’t even have an official sign outside.
my parents discovered this place days after it had opened less than 6 years ago. they brought home this fried chicken sandwich and the rest is history. this meal comes equipped with FRESH homemade bread, spicy but refreshing coleslaw, and the tastiest fried chicken goodness on the planet. one of my favorite things to do is take my friends and pop their bsb cherry.
now … a fried chicken sandwich is not complete without a …

szechuan prawns

ok. these bad boys are heaven. i have this favorite chinese restaurant in orinda called szechuan. it’s the only chinese restaurant that lights up my life. in fact, my mom had take-out from here the night i was born! … is that why i love hot and sour soup so much? …
i don’t know how to describe this dish, but know this: sizable shrimp - hot peppers - crispy crunch - super special szechuan sauce. yup. this biz is amazing.
la macarons a la parisienne

i found it! well, not the best … but a pretty damn good substitute for now. guess where they’re from? trader joe’s!!! i was in the frozen goodie section to get my ritual tj trip package of gummy tummies … when my eyes drifted below … and lo and behold there they were. a box of 12 mini chocolate and vanilla macarons for less than 5 bucks! thankfully i had a friend with me that day — she had to forcefully convince me that it was not okay to tear the package open in the store. i could hardly wait! too bad i had to wait even longer … because they take 30 minutes to defrost!!! that’s the only downfall of these tasty treats — if you have a craving you have to know about it 30 minutes in advance!!!
it’s okay though, because it was totally worth the wait! i have to admit that i actually watched the darn things defrost because i couldn’t concentrate on anything else. anyway, when i took that first bite … it literally melted in my mouth! soo tasty. soo nice. yea, these guys hit the spot.
uptown lemonade

jeremiah weed sweet tea, lemonade. served on the rocks. this fantastical *specialty* drink can be found at the fabulous somar bar, located on telegraph and 19th, this bar/lounge is perfect for an oakland night out. great vibe, great djs, great bartenders, great overall service. my somar experience is never complete without a few uptown lemonades. sure, it’s pretty pricey for a college student’s budget, but it’s sooo worth the dollars! you really get that bang for your buck … let me tell you. everybody in the bay go to somar! now!
here they are!

here they are! my favorite chicken wings :) . this was the third time i had them this week … third time = the best time. so good!!!!!!!!!!
