garlic shrimp from giovanni’s shrimp truck
i could eat this every day. this plate sends me straight to heaven. garlic shrimp from giovanni’s shrimp truck in hale’iwa, o’ahu is where it’s at. 12 big, whole, pieces of shrimp … drenched in oil, loads of garlic, and butter … with two huge scoops of rice and a lemon slice to top it off … makes this my favorite meal in the world.
but it’s not just the garlic shrimp that makes me happy. it’s where i eat it that makes all the difference. normally, giovanni’s is packed around lunch time. there are flies flying around the picnic tables and it’s hot and humid. but i found a better place to eat — a small patch of grass under a cool tree in the MacDonald’s parking lot just on the other side of the street! yes, that’s right. nobody sits there except me. it’s always breezy, quiet, and away from all the people. the only other sound are the roosters talking up a storm in the neighbor’s yard. kinda feels like being back in the village in tonga.
feeling good feelings with my shrimp plate and MacDonald’s grass.
