my victor’s café experience

last may i stumbled upon this incredible cuban restaurant in the theater district in new york. i’ve only been once (for lunch) and fully intend to go back next time i’m in the area. my two favorite dishes here were both cassava dishes. cassava = healthy, starchy, root. it’s an island thing. if you haven’t tried it, go to the berkeley bowl or any other unique produce place…i bet they’ll have it (also known as yucca root). ***by the way, sorry for the low quality of the photo … i was a little too excited on my iPhone

dish #1: yuquita frita con salsa de cilantro ~ the original crispy cassava fingers with an aromatic coriander dip

dish #2: yuca con mojo ~ chunks of meltingly rich boiled cassava smothered with tangy garlic, onions, and aromatic olive oil (this dish blew my mind … basically melt-in-your-mouth boily cassava goodness)
